Cybertron
Home of the Transformers
If there can be said to be such a thing as a "Planet of the Robots" then Cybertron is probably it. It's from here that the entire Transformers saga originates. Transfomers: Cybertron is also the name of a story series and associated ranges of toys and related stuff available to buy.
The Planet
The planet of Cybertron began life as a giant assembly line, producing robots for the ancient Quintesson race. Civil war within the Quintessons resulted in them leaving Cybertron - and hence their robots. These split into two factions, the peaceful civilian and household robots becoming the Autobots and the military robots becoming the Decepticons. The two groups had conflicting goals and ideals and before long they began to fight each other; it seems that advanced robots are no better than humans when it comes to resolving differences. The two main cities on Cybertron - and homes of the two warring factionss - are Iacon (Autobots) and Kaon (Decepticon). Other major cities include the unimaginatively named Cybertropolis and Cyber City.
The exact location of Cybertron is unclear, however it has been suggested that it originated in the Alpha Centauri system and was later sent spinning across the galaxy as a result of the force of the war between the Autobts and the Decepticons.
Anime
The Transformers: Cybertron anime show first appeared in 2005 and was known in Japan as Galaxy Force. There are a few differences between the US and Japanese versions, most notably that in the American version Override is female and in the Japanese Galaxy Force Override is male. There is some disagreement about which gender was originally intended for the character. The premise of the show is that the planet Cybertron is under threat from a black hole produced by the defeat of Unicron in Transformers: Energon.
To avoid destruction the Transformers are evacuated to Earth. Optimus Prime and the Autobots then begin a quest to discover the Cyber Planet Keys that can eliminate the black hole. Following a race with the Decepticons, the Transformers use the Keys to awaken Primus (who in this storyline was the creator of the Transformers and spirit of Cybertron). Primus manifests himself actually as the planet Cybertron itself and eventually seals the black hole.
